Hey everyone,

I'm currently finishing up pre-IB and I'll be going into full in the fall. I'm concerned that my grades will dramatically drop once I get into the full program. I am currently at a level 7 and I am just wondering how much should I expect that to drop by, if by any.

Thanks :)

From my personal experience there won't be a 'dramatic' fall. It will fall yes but also really depending on the subject level and for the first semester most likely because your teachers will not be assessing you in full in criteria therefore making it hard to actually get full marks. But after that as long as you study hard and all the subjects you are taking you are relatively strong at, then you shouldn't have any 'major' problems. It's just the criteria to achieve those 7's and such are harder to obtain than in pre ib. But then again, don't expect to get 7's straight off of your first year of DP maybe by the end of semester 1.

For me, I'm actually doing better right now in IB than I did before. Not sure what happened, but the grading for a 7 in Pre-IB is less strict than it would be in real IB. To maintain all 7 would only take hard work and enthusiasm just like getting a normal 100% on a test. The important thing to understand is that don't be afraid to see your grades fall in the beginning. It will be hard but the IB is challenging, but don't get discouraged, keep trying, find where you're losing marks and fix them. It's okay to fail, but just learn from them and improve by the time the exam comes!
