Hey everyone! I'm a student in grade 10 this year, meaning I'll start the IBDP next year. I have just made my subject choices for next year and was wondering whether anyone has advice about anything in general or specifically my subjects. Please keep in mind I want to do something related to STEM in the future (most likely engineering).

My subjects are:
Physics HL
Chemistry HL
Math HL
Economics HL
English Literature SL
Arabic B SL

Your help is much appreciated, thank you!

you have a pretty tough HL combo - if you don't need the 4 HL's for your uni, i greatly suggest you drop one to SL!

Physics HL isn't bad. I'm in it right now and the most important thing is understanding the conceptual part of it. Once you have a solid foundation on the concepts it is really just plug and chug with the equations. Maths HL is mostly calculus (we do the calc option-imagine that) but I absolutely love it. Just make sure you actually enjoy maths and make sure you develop a firm foundation of the basics in year one...otherwise it can turn into a hot mess. Also make sure you enjoy maths (which if you are STEM then you probably do) because at our school we call HL Maths the class where you do maths just for the sake of doing maths.

True math HL takes a lot of studying and work you have to really love the subject and devote time to it.

Well, I was originally going to do Econ SL but I spoke to our econ teacher. All students in our school score higher on econ HL rather than SL because of paper 3 , so might as well take it at HL if ill take it

If you're taking math HL you really have to focus on it, but you do take 3 other HLs 2 of which are not that easy, i would suggest starting off with 4 HLs, you'll always have the option to drop one to SL before you are officially registered, but if you decide to stay with 4, you really have to put in a lot of effort and time to get a high score

Im planning on staying with four HLs, mainly because I'm genuinely interested in all 4, but if it does get difficult I at least do have something to fall back on if I do drop

Also Arabic is my first language so doing it at B should be a fairly easy 6/7 to get with not that much effort

Physics HL, Chemistry HL and Maths HL is very difficult. You've got to work really hard. Start working really hard once you're in grade 11 and don't procrastinate. If you like Economics, you should take it, but if not I'd prefer for you to take ESS because everyone from my school find that subject easier. Also, taking 3 SL subjects would be better.
