Hello,

I’m in my second year of IB (may 2019 examination session) and I have English B HL as a subject. I am aiming for a 7, however, somehow I always manage to score less than 7 with a few points. Does anyone have any tips on how to secure a 7? For example for P2 (section B?) Can you actually prepare for English B other than learning idioms, etc?

Thank you!

@flaviab I dont think that memorizing stuff for English B is really helpful. I would recommend u solve a lot of past paper questions for the personal response and give them to someone experienced like your English teacher to mark them, look at their comments they make and try to improve what you’re doing wrong. I know that the IB is very time consuming but for the purpose of learning and using idioms and stuff like that i would recommend watching English movies/TV shows/reading books. Also for Paper 2 Section 2 i would focus on 4-5 types of writing rather than all of them as u wont need them and really focus in the format u need to have. Most of the times its easy to get the content marks and language if u mostly use correct grammar and somewhat advanced vocab. Most of the marks are lost for the format. Look at what makes each type of writing unique and make sure u include it in the essay (For example in guideline ur supposed to use, semi formal language, directly address the reader, use subheading etc.)

@flaviab the only way to prepare for Paper 1 is by solving past papers (and marking them)
