I did English Lang & lit HL and German Lang & lit Sl and it wasn’t too bad. Of course it’s different to just literature, as you read less books, but there are many parallels. Just make sure that you read enough of the books during DP 1 and get as many Written tasks 1 and 2 done as soon as you can. If you manage to stay on top of all this it works out quite well.
As there are many parallels it is very helpful, yet there are times where you need to distinguish between the two.
If you don’t love reading, I would suggest you take one of the two as a language and literature course, which is also very interesting.

I do English Lit HL and Hungarian Lit SL. I think it’s good to have two lit classes because they really complement each other and you can easily make use of what you’ve learnt in one class in the other class. However English Lit HL is one of the most challenging essay-based classes in the IB in my opinion, or at least that’s the case for me. And having two literature classes is also very challenging because even one lit class has a huge workload, you have to read a lot of books and really manage your time (obviously that’s the case for the IB in general as well) so having that doubled can be quite challenging. But if you like literature then there is no reason not to go for it :)
